FAQs
Where & when are the games played?
Games are played in area school’s gyms. There is one game per week, played on Friday evening or Saturday or Sunday morning and afternoon.
What are the rules?
Rules are basic hockey rules. Grades 1 through 6 play with five players on the floor plus a goalie. A game consists of three nine-minute periods, with three, three-minute line changes per period. Grades 7 through High School play with four players on the floor plus a goalie. A game consists of three eighteen-minute periods with a running clock and free substitution. No checking or high sticking is allowed. All rules will be handed out to each coach to be discussed with the team.
Is any special equipment needed?
Players will be provided a league issued team T-shirt, hockey stick and puck. Players can choose to wear shorts or long pants (e.g. sweats or leggings) along with clean gym shoes. Eye protection (I.e sport goggles) is mandatory and must be worn while on the gym floor. A mouthpiece is recommended, but not mandatory.
Can I request to be on a team with my friend or sister?
Sisters may play together on the same team if they fall into the same age group. Requests by friends to play on the same team cannot be honored, sorry-no exceptions.
Can I request to have a specific coach?
No, requests to play for a specific coach will not be honored. Those who volunteer to coach will be able be able to coach the team their daughter is placed on.
How are the teams formed?
Teams are formed via a blind draft by the league coordinators, from a different age group, balancing grade and experience levels.
When will I know what team I will be playing on?
Your team coach will contact you approximately two weeks before the start of the season, usually around the middle of August.
Are there any practices?
There are no team practices. Due to the size of the league and limited number of available gyms, no team practice is allowed.
Can I use my own equipment?
Players will be provided with a hockey stick issued by the league. Players must bring their own goggles. Goalies can supply their own goalie masks, but it must meet with league approval.
I want to coach, but I am not sure of all the rules.
A mandatory coaches clinic is held before the season starts to go over all rules and allow the coaches to referee a practice game.
I would like to be a coach. How do I sign up to be a coach?
The registration form has a section to volunteer to be a coach. Please be aware that there are limited numbers of coaching spots available per age group. In addition, all coaches are required to referee the game prior to or after their team’s game each week.
